The Faro Smile is a wall mounted light that turns a single curved sheet of metal into something quietly playful. Designed by Jordi Busquets, its softly rolled form wraps around the lamp like a scroll, giving you a piece that reads as much as a small wall sculpture as a light fitting. The name comes from the gentle curve of its profile, and that curve is where the design earns its keep: the lamp works in two ways depending on how you fix it to the wall.

The black finish

Finished in matt black, this version keeps things graphic and understated. The metal body has a smooth, low sheen surface that holds its shape crisply against a pale wall and disappears politely against a darker one. It is a good match for modern and pared back interiors, and it sits comfortably alongside other black metal fixtures, dark joinery or exposed brick without competing for attention. How it works

The Smile has a genuinely useful dual function thanks to its adjustable design. Mounted in the vertical position it throws a soft wash of indirect light up and down the wall, ideal for ambient and mood lighting. Turned to the horizontal position it becomes a focused reading light, directing the beam where you need it. The lamp takes a single E27 screw fit bulb, which is not included, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature that suits the spot. It is not a dimmable fitting. As a hardwired fitting it is designed for permanent wall installation, and Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Fit a pair either side of a bed and angle them for reading, or use a single Smile in a hallway, living room or study as a discreet source of indirect light. About Faro Barcelona

Faro Barcelona began as Lorefar, founded in Barcelona in 1951 by Carlos Lopez Lopez, and today designs its collections from Castellbisbal on the edge of the city. In 2011 the company acquired the Catalan lighting brand BioscaBotey. The Smile, designed by Jordi Busquets, is a good example of that design led approach, taking a simple material and a single fold to create a fitting with real personality.
