A quietly confident disc of light
The Faro Side 390 is a low profile flush ceiling lamp with a shallow domed silhouette, designed by Alex and Manel Lluscá for Faro Barcelona. A soft opal glass diffuser sits at its centre, wrapped by a sloping metal rim that catches and spreads the light across the surrounding surface. It is a calm, sculptural piece that reads as much as a ceiling detail as a light source, and it can also be mounted on a wall where a rounded pool of glow is wanted.
The Black & Copper finish
This version pairs a deep black body with a warm copper rim, so the fitting shifts in character depending on the light. Switched off, the copper reads as a soft rose toned metal against the matt black back, a warmer and more characterful choice than the cooler Black & Gold in the same 390 size. Lit, the opal dome glows white while the copper edge picks up a gentle amber sheen. It suits interiors leaning towards warm metals, terracotta, timber and earthy tones, and gives the smaller Side 200 fittings a larger companion at 39cm across.
How it works
The Side 390 uses an integrated SMD LED module rather than a replaceable bulb, so there is nothing to buy separately and nothing to change over its life. Faro rates the output at around 1200 lumens in a warm white 3000K tone, with a colour rendering index above 80 for natural looking colour indoors. It is not dimmable. The lamp runs on mains voltage and is fixed directly to the ceiling or wall. Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where it works best
Its flush, unobtrusive shape makes it a practical choice for spaces with lower ceilings such as hallways, landings, bedrooms and box rooms, where a hanging pendant would feel too heavy. The even, glare softened light from the opal diffuser also works well over stairs and in reading corners, and the copper detail lets it double as a decorative feature rather than a purely functional ceiling light. As an indoor rated fitting it is intended for dry living spaces.
About Faro Barcelona
Faro Barcelona began as Lorefar, founded in Barcelona in 1951 by Carlos Lopez Lopez, who built the brand's name from his own surname Lopez, his wife's surname Orejudo, and the word faro. The company still designs its collections from Castellbisbal on the edge of Barcelona, and in 2011 it acquired the Catalan lighting brand BioscaBotey. The Side range reflects that same considered approach, built around a solid, simple form in metal and opal glass.

Questions People Ask
Can the Faro Side 390 be fitted to a wall as well as a ceiling?
Yes. The Faro Side 390 is designed to work as a flush ceiling light or a wall light, so the same fitting can be used to create a rounded pool of glow on a wall where a ceiling fixing is not suitable.
What does the copper trim look like when the Faro Side 390 is switched off?
With the Faro Side 390 Black & Copper switched off, the copper rim reads as a soft rose toned metal against the matt black body, and it takes on a gentle amber sheen once the opal dome is lit.
Can the Faro Side 390 be used with a dimmer switch?
No. The Faro Side 390 runs on an integrated LED module at a fixed output, so it should be wired to a standard switch rather than a dimmer.
What size fixing plate does the Faro Side 390 need?
The Faro Side 390 has a 20cm diameter fixing plate beneath its 39cm diameter, 11cm deep dome, so check this against the ceiling or wall box before ordering.
