A wider wash of hidden light for steps and low walls
The Sedna is a recessed exterior light designed to sit almost flush with the surface it is built into, throwing a soft wash of light without a visible fitting drawing the eye. This is the rectangular version, a low, horizontal form with gently rounded corners and an angled internal reflector that directs the beam downward and outward. It is the kind of discreet outdoor light that does its work quietly, marking a step, a path edge or the base of a wall after dark.
The dark grey finish
Finished in a textured dark grey, this version has a matte, slightly granular surface that reads as almost charcoal in daylight and disappears against stone, render and brickwork at night. The tone is more forgiving than a stark black and sits comfortably against natural materials, weathered timber and grey paving. The rectangular shape gives a wider, more letterbox spread of light than the square Sedna models, which makes it a natural choice where you want to graze a low wall or light a broader tread.
How it works
The Sedna Rectangular uses an integrated LED rated at 3W, producing a warm white 3000K light of around 90 lumens. Because the LED is built in, there is no bulb to buy or replace. The light is not dimmable. It is designed to be recessed into a wall or riser, and the flush mount box and driver are both included, so the housing that sets into the masonry comes as part of the fitting. The body is built in cast aluminium with a polycarbonate diffuser over the light aperture. Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where it works best
This is a fitting for gardens, terraces, driveways and entrances where you want gentle, low level guidance rather than bright general light. Set into the wall of a porch, along a flight of garden steps, into a retaining wall beside a path or at skirting height on a façade, it provides that useful signal lighting that lets people move safely without glare. Its horizontal form suits step risers and low walls particularly well, and a run of them spaced along a path or driveway gives an even, considered rhythm of light.
Weather resistance
The Sedna Rectangular carries an IP65 rating, which means it is fully protected against dust and against jets of water from any direction. In practical terms it is rated for full exposure to rain and the elements, so it can be used in open, uncovered positions outdoors rather than only under a canopy or porch.

Questions People Ask
What cut out size does the Sedna Rectangular need?
The Sedna Rectangular requires a cut out of 125mm by 58mm, so check the wall or step opening matches before fitting.
How wide a spread of light does the Sedna Rectangular give?
With a 70 degree beam angle, the Sedna Rectangular casts a broader, more letterbox shaped wash of light than the square Sedna models, useful for grazing a low wall or a wider step tread.
Can the Sedna Rectangular be used fully exposed to the weather?
Yes. Rated IP65, the Sedna Rectangular is fully dust tight and protected against water jets from any direction, so it is suitable for open, uncovered outdoor positions.
Is the Sedna Rectangular bright enough to light a whole patio?
No. With Faro stating an output of around 90 lumens, the Sedna Rectangular is designed as gentle signal lighting to mark a step or path edge, rather than to light a whole patio or terrace.
