The Nala is a compact pedestal lantern that reworks the classic glass box in a clean, contemporary way. A square aluminium frame holds four clear glass panels, so the bulb sits on display and casts light evenly across all four sides. The result is a soft, lantern like glow that suits gardens and entrances without dominating them, and a form that reads as modern rather than traditional.

The dark grey finish

This version wears a textured dark grey, close to anthracite, that keeps the metalwork understated against greenery, stone and pale rendered walls. The colour recedes in daylight and lets the glass and the lit bulb do the work after dark. Standing around 22cm tall on a 20cm square footprint, it is a low, chunky little lantern designed to sit on a pillar, a low wall, a gatepost or a plinth rather than tower over a path.

How it works

The Nala takes a single E27 screw fit bulb, up to 15W, which is not included so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature that suit the setting. It is not dimmable. The lamp is mains powered and hardwired, so Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician. The stepped base is made to sit flat on a solid surface and conceal the cable entry.

Where it works best

This is an exterior fitting, happiest marking a threshold. Use a pair either side of a front door or driveway gates, set one on a garden wall or pillar cap, or line them along the edge of a terrace to add warmth at low level. Because it throws light on four sides rather than casting it in one direction, it works as a gentle area light for patios, porches and courtyard corners as much as a marker along a boundary.
