The Fold wall lamp pairs two jobs in one quietly clever fitting. A soft cylindrical fabric shade throws ambient light up and out into the room, while a slim adjustable reader spot mounted below delivers a focused pool of light exactly where you point it. Designed by Nutcreatives for Faro Barcelona, Fold takes a simple rectangular metal structure and lets a piece of the upper section fold outward towards the diffuser, a small detail that gives the range its name and its calm, considered look.

The black finish

This version wears a deep matt black across both the metal wall plate and the fabric shade, so the fitting reads as one solid silhouette against a wall rather than a collection of parts. The underside of the shade stays pale, which keeps the light warm and open as it spills downward. Black suits darker, layered interiors and works just as well as a graphic full stop against a pale plaster or panelled wall. It is the more grounded sibling to the white Fold, trading brightness for a bit of drama.

How it works

Fold is a mains powered, wall mounted fitting with two independent switches built into the base, so the ambient shade and the reader spot can be used together or on their own. The main light takes one E27 bulb up to a maximum of 15W, which is not included, leaving you free to choose the colour temperature and style of bulb you prefer. It is not dimmable. The reader is a directional 3W LED spotlight integrated into the fitting, ready to angle towards a page or pillow. Because it is hardwired, Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.

Where it works best

This is a natural bedside wall light, freeing up the surface of a nightstand while giving each side of the bed its own reading beam. It works equally well flanking an armchair in a reading corner, in a study, or in a guest room where a tidy, dual purpose light earns its place. Anywhere you want gentle background light and a proper task beam from a single point, Fold does both.

Faro Barcelona began in 1951 as Lorefar, founded in Barcelona by Carlos Lopez Lopez, who built the name from his own surname, his wife's surname Orejudo, and the word faro. The company still designs its collections from Castellbisbal on the edge of Barcelona, commissioning ranges such as Fold from outside designers including Nutcreatives.
