A spike mounted accent light for planting and features
The Balder is a compact garden projector designed to be pushed straight into soil or a border and aimed exactly where you want it. Its slim cylindrical head sits on an adjustable knuckle joint above a pointed ground spike, so you can angle the beam up into planting, along a wall or onto a favourite feature and reposition it as a garden matures. It is a discreet, purposeful piece of outdoor lighting that does its work after dark and all but disappears by day.
The black finish
This version wears a matt black finish over a die cast aluminium body, with fine cooling ribs running along the head and a small round glass lens at the front. The black recedes into shadow and foliage, which makes it a natural choice for planted borders, dark timber, slate and modern rendered walls where you want the light to read rather than the fitting. It pairs neatly with other black exterior fixtures for a consistent scheme across a garden.
How it works
Light comes from an integrated high power LED rated at 3W, producing a warm 3000K colour that flatters greenery, stone and brick. The beam is tightly focused at around 36 degrees, so the Balder works as an accent and uplight rather than a broad floodlight, picking out a single tree, sculpture or section of wall. The head tilts and locks on its bracket for precise aiming, and the fitting arrives with its spike and a fitted supply cable of roughly two metres ready to connect. As the LED is built in, there is no separate bulb to buy or replace. Moonlight Design recommends installation by a registered NICEIC electrician.
Where it works best
The Balder is at home in garden beds and borders, along path edges, at the base of trees and shrubs, or turned onto a façade, fence or feature wall to add depth to an outdoor space at night. Its spike mount makes it easy to move seasonally, so it suits gardeners who like to light different plants as they come into their own, as well as anyone wanting understated architectural uplighting across a terrace or driveway planting.
Weather resistance
The Balder carries an IP67 rating, which places it among the most weatherproof of outdoor fittings: fully protected against dust and solids and sealed against the effects of temporary immersion in water. That means it copes comfortably with heavy rain, wet ground and puddling in borders, making it well suited to full exposure in an open garden rather than only sheltered spots.

Questions People Ask
Can the Faro Balder be moved to a different spot in the garden later?
Yes. The Faro Balder is spike mounted rather than fixed to a base, so it can be lifted and pushed into a new position as planting grows or a border is redesigned, though the supply cable and connection point still need to reach the new spot.
How wide is the beam from the Faro Balder?
The Faro Balder has a beam angle of around 36 degrees, so it works as a focused accent light for uplighting a single tree, shrub or wall feature rather than as a wide floodlight.
Is the Faro Balder safe to leave in wet soil or a border that floods after heavy rain?
Yes. It carries an IP67 rating, which means it is fully protected against dust and sealed against the effects of temporary immersion in water, so it can sit in wet ground and puddling borders as well as open, exposed spots.
What is included with the Faro Balder besides the light head?
The Faro Balder comes with its ground spike, an adjustable head bracket for aiming, and a fitted supply cable of roughly two metres ready to connect into the mains.
