Will eight bulbs give enough light for a whole room?
That depends on bulb wattage and the size of the space. Eight 10W LED bulbs will give a reasonable general lighting level in most rooms, while eight 20W halogen bulbs will be much brighter. You can install any combination up to the 20W per socket limit.

Does this fitting need a dimmer?
No, it will work perfectly well with standard bulbs and a regular light switch. Dimming is optional and requires both dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.
