Could this light damage the artwork underneath it?
No, picture lights like this are designed with artwork in mind. The warm 3000K light doesn't distort colour, and there's little heat generated at the fitting, so it shouldn't cause fading or damage over normal use.

Does it have to be mounted above a picture, or can I use it elsewhere on a wall?
It's designed as a picture light, but there's nothing stopping you using it as a general accent wall light in a hallway or study if you like the warm, focused glow it gives.

How wide is the beam once it's lit?
