One E27 bulb holder sits inside the dome, taking a maximum 60W bulb. The clear glass spreads light freely into the room rather than concentrating it, so you get soft, even illumination. The polished nickel plate picks up light and reflects it gently, adding to the brightness. It's Class I electrical, so it needs an earth connection as part of the installation.
