A Warm Bell Glow From Antique Brass
The single pendant version of Epping in this bell shaped shade gives a softer appearance than the prismatic models, thanks to the rounded dome allowing light to escape from the bottom as well as the sides. Dressed in clear glass and backed by an antique brass fixture, it creates a warm, classic look that suits both contemporary and traditional interiors without leaning heavily toward either.
Choosing Your Finish
Antique brass is a warm, slightly aged tone that's been a favourite in lighting design for generations. Unlike bright polished brass, it has a gentler, less reflective quality that keeps the focus on the glass shade rather than the metalwork. This finish is particularly suited to spaces with period character, but works equally well in modern settings where a touch of warmth is welcome.
How It Works
A single E27 lamp holder is positioned inside the bell shade, capable of taking a 60W maximum bulb. The bell shape spreads light from a central point out and downward in a generous arc, rather than concentrating it straight down like a narrow shade would. It's wired to Class I electrical standards, requiring an earth connection, and dimmability is available if you select dimmable bulbs and a compatible dimmer switch.
Where It Works Best
A single pendant works well positioned above a kitchen island, offsetting a dining table edge, or hanging in a hallway or stairwell as a focal point. The bell shape gives a more generous light spread than smaller shades, so it's useful in situations where you want good illumination across an area below. It's an indoor fitting only, designed for dry rooms away from splashing water or high humidity.
Design Details
The bell shape itself is a classic form in lighting design, chosen because the upward curve of the dome allows light to bounce off the inside surface before it escapes, creating a fuller, more diffuse glow than a straight sided shade can achieve. The clear glass means the light isn't filtered or softened by colour, and the antique brass rod suspension is slim and elegant without sacrificing structural strength.

Questions People Ask
How much light does the bell shade let through?
The clear glass is highly transparent, so most of the light from the bulb passes through. The bell shape means it spreads that light across a wider area than a tall, narrow shade would.
Would this work over a small table?
Yes, the single pendant design is flexible, and the 30cm diameter shade is proportionate for smaller surfaces without dominating the space.
Is this shade available in other colours?
This shade comes in clear glass only. If you prefer tinted or textured glass, the prismatic or flat round shades in the Epping range might be better alternatives.
