A Twisted Stem Floor Lamp With A Green Zigzag Shade

The Twist floor lamp takes a very traditional idea, the barley twist column, and gives it a soft modern finish. The stem is moulded with a deep rope twist and painted in satin almond white, then topped with a 40cm pleated shade in a Cotswold green zigzag print. The lamp stands 160cm tall, so it is a proper reading height lamp rather than a small accent piece, and the green ikat style pattern gives it plenty of character in an otherwise quiet room.

The stem and round base are cast in resin, which is how the twist keeps such crisp, even ridges all the way down, and finished in a satin almond white paint with a gentle sheen. The shade is made by hand, gathered and pleated into a tapered shape with a taped edge and a plain inner lining. The fabric is a faux silk, digitally printed with a chevron zigzag in two greens and off white, so when the lamp is on the pattern glows through the pleats. The lamp holder between the two is antique brass coloured, a small detail that lifts the whole thing.

How It Works

This is a plug in floor lamp, so there is no wiring involved. It takes one E27 screw cap LED bulb up to 10W, and the bulb is not included. It is not dimmable. You switch it on and off with an inline foot switch set into the cream braided cable, which runs to 2 metres in total. The lamp is supplied with a European two pin plug and a UK three pin adapter, so you can plug it straight into a UK socket. The stem comes folded in two parts for the box and joins together before the shade goes on.
