Elstead York Single Wall Down Lantern - Black

A wall lantern with a bit of character

Most wall lanterns just hang flat against the brickwork, but the York down light adds a decorative scrolled bracket that gives it presence before you even reach the lantern itself. The whole fitting angles down and out from the wall, in the manner of the old coach lamps that once marked out a house from the street.

The bracket, roof and body are all die cast aluminium, finished in a solid black that will not show scratches or weathering the way a lighter colour can. The four glass panels are hammered rather than smooth, so light passing through them is softened and slightly broken up instead of shining out as one bright square.

How It Works

York takes a single E27 bulb, sold separately, and works with dimmable bulbs if you want to turn the light down on a summer evening rather than run it at full strength all night. The lantern shape throws light mostly downward and to the sides, useful for lighting the ground near a door rather than the sky above it. The fitting is wired directly into the wall, so we recommend a qualified electrician handles installation.

Where It Works Best

York suits a period or traditional house best, mounted either side of a front door, spaced along a garden wall, or wherever a fitting needs to look the part switched off as well as lit. The scrolled bracket adds enough detail that it can stand as the only decoration on an otherwise plain wall, and being rated IP43 it is built to cope with a sheltered outdoor spot such as a porch.

Does the York wall lantern come with a bulb? No. It takes a single E27 bulb, sold separately, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature you prefer.

Is the York wall lantern dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb will not respond to a dimmer switch.
