There is something reassuring about a good coach lantern, and the York does the job without any fuss. It hangs flush to the ceiling with a short, sturdy arm, its four sided lantern shape immediately recognisable as the kind of light that has guarded English doorways for generations.

Finished in black

Cast in die cast aluminium and finished in a deep matte black, the York has crisp, square lines that read as smart rather than fussy. The glass panels are hammered rather than flat, which breaks up the light rather than casting a single hard beam and adds a bit of texture to the piece even when it is switched off.

How it works

This is the single light, flush mounted version, designed to sit close under a porch ceiling rather than drop down on a long stem. It takes one E27 bulb, which is not included, so you can choose warm or cool light to suit the rest of your exterior lighting, and it can be used with dimmable bulbs if you would like more control over the mood.

Where it works best

Look for it above a front or side door, tucked under a porch roof or canopy where its flush fixing keeps it neat and out of the way of anyone tall enough to catch a hanging lantern on the way in.
