The York single porch lantern keeps things simple: one lamp, four glazed sides, and a shape that has marked out British front doors for generations. Hung flush beneath a porch roof, it does the classic coach lantern job without any unnecessary flourish.

Cast in die cast aluminium and finished in a deep matte black, the York has crisp, square lines and a shallow pitched roof that keeps rain off the glass below. The four panels are hammered rather than flat, breaking the light into a soft, textured glow rather than one hard beam, and giving the lantern some presence even before it is switched on.

How It Works

This is the flush mounted version of York, sitting close under the ceiling on a short arm rather than dropping down on a chain. It takes a single E27 LED bulb, which is not included, so you can choose the colour temperature to suit the rest of your exterior lighting, and it will respond to a dimmer switch if you fit a dimmable bulb.

Where It Works Best

Because it sits flush to the ceiling rather than hanging down, York suits a porch roof or door canopy where headroom is tight, mounted directly above a front or side door. At 18.5cm wide it also fits neatly into a narrower porch than a full pendant lantern would allow.

Elstead Lighting

York comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose history traces back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which is still led by the Lucas family today. The same coach lantern design is also available as a wall mounted lantern and on a pedestal, so it is straightforward to keep a matching look running around a whole entrance if you want lanterns either side of the door as well as above it.
