Winchfield takes the classic swing arm picture light and gives it a dressier finish: a shade and backplate carrying a printed white marble effect, held in a curved polished nickel frame. It sits somewhere between a practical wall fitting and a piece of hallway furniture, closer to something you would expect mounted above a console table than a plain reading light.

The shade and rectangular backplate carry a genuine looking grey veining rather than a flat print, printed onto the same curved steel shade used across the Winchfield range. The arm, backplate edges and shade end caps are all bright polished nickel, which keeps the fitting reading crisp rather than heavy and lets the marble effect do the visual work.

How It Works

Two E14 bulbs sit inside the shade, angled to throw light forward and down over whatever is mounted beneath. The arm hinges at two points, where it meets the wall bracket and again where it joins the shade, so the angle can be adjusted once the light is fixed to the wall to aim it squarely at the artwork below. Bulbs are not included, and the fitting may need a little light assembly once it is out of the box.

Where It Works Best

It is a natural fit above a large mirror, a statement print or a piece of art in a room already leaning towards marble, glass or polished metal accents, and works equally well in a living room, dining room, bedroom or hallway. Because the shade reads light rather than dark, it also holds its own against pale or white walls, where a black or bronze picture light might otherwise stand out as a hard silhouette.

Is the Winchfield picture light dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit dimmable E14 bulbs. Non dimmable bulbs will not dim even on a dimmer switch circuit.
