A picture light with a bit of contrast built in
Most picture lights come in one metal, top to bottom. The Winchfield mixes it up: a slim, half round shade in a soft matte black, held on aged brass arms that swing out from a matching black backplate. It gives the fitting more presence than a plain brass version, without tipping into anything heavy handed.

The shade and wall plate share the same understated black, while the arms, the pivot joints and the little ball feet at each end are all in a warm, slightly antiqued brass. The two tones sit close together rather than fighting, so from a distance it reads as one considered fitting rather than two finishes stuck together.
How It Works
Two E14 lamps sit inside the shade and throw light forward and down, which is exactly the angle you want for washing a canvas or a framed print without glare bouncing back at you. The arm pivots at both the wall bracket and the shade itself, so once it is fixed to the wall you can still angle the beam to suit the piece underneath. Bulbs are not included, so you'll need to fit two E14 lamps before switching it on.
Where It Works Best
It was built for artwork, but it works just as well over a mirror, a mantel or a run of shelving where you want a defined pool of light rather than general room glow. The black and brass combination reads well against dark or richly coloured walls in particular, and it suits a living room, bedroom, dining room or hallway equally well.

What bulbs does the Winchfield picture light take? It takes two E14 lamps, and bulbs are not included, so you'll need to fit two before switching it on.
Is the Winchfield picture light dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit dimmable E14 bulbs. Non dimmable bulbs will not respond to a dimmer switch even on a compatible circuit.
Can I adjust the angle of the light once it's installed? Yes. The arm pivots at both the wall bracket and the shade itself, so you can angle the beam down onto the artwork even after the fitting is fixed to the wall.
Does this picture light need any assembly? It may need some light assembly on arrival, such as attaching the arm to the backplate, but this is straightforward and doesn't require any wiring beyond the standard installation.
