A square lantern with genuine Arts and Crafts character
The Winchester pedestal lantern is a square, straight sided design that owes more to Arts and Crafts porch lighting than to the swinging coach lanterns of the same era. Cross bars divide each glass panel into four small panes, and a pointed finial tops the pyramid roof above.
Black die cast finish
It is cast in black painted die cast aluminium, with a textured, slightly rippled glass that softens the light rather than showing a bare bulb through clear panes. The same cross barred glazing pattern runs around all four sides, so it reads the same from whichever direction you approach.
How It Works
The lantern head takes one E27 LED lamp, fitted into a single lamp holder inside. It sits on a tapered pedestal with a square fixing plate at the base, ready to bolt straight to a gate pier, low wall or matching plinth. Being Class I, it needs to be properly earthed, so we always recommend a qualified electrician wires it in.
Where It Works Best
It suits marking a driveway entrance or flanking a front path in pairs, where its four sided glow reads well from more than one angle as you approach. It also works well set into the top of a gate pier or garden wall, standing in for a traditional lamp post where there is no room for one.

Does the Winchester pedestal lantern come with a bulb? No. It takes one E27 LED lamp, which is not included, so you can choose the exact warmth and brightness you want.
Do I need an electrician to install it? Yes. It is Class I and needs to be properly earthed, so we always recommend a qualified electrician wires it in.
Is the Winchester pedestal lantern dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb will not dim even on a dimmer switch circuit.
Is this lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes. It is IP43 rated, which covers protection against splashing water, making it suitable for a driveway, gate pier or front path.
