Elstead Wilmslow 1 Light Lamp Post - Black

A lamp post built to street scale

The Wilmslow stands close to 3.1 metres tall, closer to a genuine Victorian street lamp than a shrunken garden version of one. A tapered lantern head with a pointed finial sits above a decorative scroll bracket, on top of a plain black post that runs down to an ornate cast base.

Cast aluminium in black

The lantern head and post are cast aluminium, with a steel core running through the post for extra rigidity given the height. Everything is finished in a flat black, and the four glass panels around the lantern are left clear rather than textured, so the bulb inside is visible rather than diffused.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits inside the lantern head. We'd recommend an LED version, and it isn't supplied. The base of the post has its own access door, so the electrical connection can be made at ground level without dismantling the post itself. Given the fixture is wired in rather than plugged in, and given its scale, we'd always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation.

Where It Works Best

This is a light for a space with real distance to fill: a driveway, a long front path, or a boundary where a wall or bollard light would sit too low to register. Its height means it throws a pool of light down and out, more like a street lamp than a spot fixture, so it suits marking a route rather than lighting a doorway.

Elstead Lighting

Wilmslow comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which is still led by the Lucas family today. The same lantern head design also appears elsewhere in the Wilmslow range as a smaller wall or pedestal fitting, so it's possible to repeat the same look at a lower height nearer the house.
