Elstead Taiko 2 Light Wall Light - Olde Bronze

Taiko takes its name from a cluster of metal rods that spike out above and below a plain linen shade, like a scattering of kindling caught mid air. It is an unusual, sculptural shape for a wall light, closer to a piece of art than a conventional fitting.

The design

The rods are finished in a dark, olde bronze tone and arranged asymmetrically, no two angles quite the same, while the drum shade in the middle is a soft neutral linen that calms the composition down and diffuses the light evenly.

How it works

It takes two E14 bulbs, not supplied, sitting inside the linen shade. Wired to Class I standard, so it needs an earthed supply, and will dim if you fit dimmable bulbs.

Where it works best

At just over 60cm tall, it makes a real statement either side of a bed, flanking a fireplace, or on its own in a hallway or living room where you want a talking point rather than background lighting. It suits contemporary interiors best, somewhere the sculptural top and base have room to stand out against a plain wall.

An unexpected turn for Elstead

Elstead Lighting is generally known for traditional and country house style fittings, so Taiko is a departure, proof that the same company can turn its hand to something angular and current when the design calls for it.
