The St Pauls lantern tapers as it drops, wider at its curved bell top than at the base, with a small chimney vent breaking up the roofline. It reads as a more slender shape than a boxy period lantern, which is what makes it work in spots a wider fitting would crowd.

Unlacquered Brass

This version is cast in brass and left unlacquered, so it has a warm, slightly uneven tone straight out of the box rather than a uniform factory shine. Left uncoated, the metal will darken and develop its own patina with age and weather, a look some people choose a lantern specifically for. Clear glass panels run down each of its four tapered sides, so the bulb inside is fully visible rather than hidden behind frosted or textured glass.

How It Works

It takes one E27 LED bulb, not supplied, wired to a single lamp holder inside the frame. Left as is it runs at a fixed brightness, but fit a dimmable LED bulb and it can be dimmed from a compatible switch or dimmer module.

At 32cm tall and 20.5cm wide, with a projection of 11.5cm off the wall, it suits a front door, side passage or gate pillar without overwhelming a narrower wall or reveal. The tapered shape casts a slightly narrower pool of light than a boxier lantern, which some people prefer for a more intimate porch or entrance.
