An old dockside look for the wall

The Sheldon takes its cue from the caged railway and dockside lanterns once used to keep a bulb lit and protected on a rough night. A wide, flared brim sweeps down over a domed glass shade, with the whole head carried out from the wall on a graceful curved arm. It has real weight and character without tipping into fussy detail.

Aged brass finish

Rather than a bright polished surface, this finish is an aged brass, so the metal already carries a warm, softly weathered tone straight out of the box and will keep deepening with age and exposure to the weather. The glass dome beneath the brim has a lightly seeded texture, with small bubbles caught in the glass, and a wire cage wraps around it to guard the bulb.

How It Works

Sheldon takes a single E27 bulb, suited to an LED lamp, which isn't included so you'll need to fit one before switching it on. Choose a dimmable bulb and the light will respond to a dimmer switch. The fitting is Class I, which means it must be wired with an earth connection, and as with any outdoor light we recommend it's installed by a qualified electrician.

Where It Works Best

Mounted on its curved arm the head reaches about 39cm out from the wall, casting a broad pool of light rather than a tight spot, which suits porches, entrances and anywhere you want a welcoming glow by the front door. The aged brass tone reads especially well against brick, render or stone, where a warmer metal can properly stand out from the wall behind it.
