The Provence single light takes a simple metal cone shade and mounts it on a fully adjustable, knuckle jointed arm, so you can point the light down over a worktop, out from a wall, or straight down from the ceiling. It reads part industrial, part French farmhouse, which is probably why it turns up in so many different rooms.

Polished nickel

This fitting comes in a bright polished nickel that catches the light along every joint and swivel. It's a cool, reflective finish that sits comfortably with brass accents or other chrome and steel pieces nearby, and it won't compete with a patterned splashback or a busy worktop.

How it works

Provence is built around a rod in two jointed sections, so you can set the reach and the angle before locking it in place. The same hardware works as a ceiling fitting or a wall light: as a pendant the rod telescopes from around 53.5cm up to 123.5cm, bringing the shade close to a table or letting it hang further down a stairwell, and as a wall light the arm reaches out roughly 76cm from the wall instead.

Where it works best

Aim it over a kitchen island or breakfast bar for focused task light, hang a pair either side of a run of cabinets, or fit it beside a desk in an office where you want light angled onto paperwork rather than glaring across the room. Mounted as a wall light it also earns its keep beside a dining table, angled in to replace an overhead pendant with something more directional.
