Nickel plating is buffed to a full mirror shine across the tapering cone shade, the slender stem and the weighted oval base, with no texture or patina to soften the reflection anywhere. It's a cooler, brighter alternative to the brass and bronze finishes in the same range, and sits naturally alongside chrome taps, steel furniture legs or glass tabletops.

How It Works

A single E14 bulb sits inside the cone shade, aimed to throw light down and to the side rather than straight up. There's no dimmer built into the fitting itself, so dimming depends entirely on fitting a dimmable bulb and running it on a dimmer circuit.

Where It Works Best

Standing around 60cm tall on a compact 15cm diameter base, Provence takes up little more room than a large vase, which suits a bedside table, a hallway console or a shelf where a slim, well finished lamp earns its place more than a wide one. Because polished nickel is such a bright, reflective finish, it also shows up well against darker furniture where a matte lamp might disappear.

The Provence name points to the cone shaded stick lamps that were a familiar sight in French interiors of the mid 1900s, and Elstead has carried that silhouette through into a small run of pendants, lamps and wall lights across several finishes.
