The Provence floor lamp is built round a jointed arm and a single angled shade, the same silhouette Elstead uses across the range. In Polished Nickel the metal reads brighter and more reflective than the brand's usual bronzed options, throwing light back rather than absorbing it, so a familiar shape ends up reading as considerably more contemporary in the room.

Polished nickel over mild steel

Beneath the bright nickel plating the lamp is built from mild steel, giving the cone shade and jointed arm enough weight to hold whatever angle they're set to. The finish itself has a glossy, mirror bright shine rather than the brushed texture of Elstead's satin options, so reflections and highlights shift across the shade as the light in the room changes through the day.

How it works

Two knuckle joints run down the upright column between a weighted round base and the shade itself, so the arm folds and extends rather like an architect's lamp. Loosen a joint to swing the shade down close to a chair for reading, or up and out to send light across a wider stretch of room, then tighten it back down and the arm holds the new position without drifting.

Where it works best

The compact base takes up very little floor space next to an armchair or a desk, while the reach of the arm lets the shade travel well beyond the base itself. It suits a home office or study particularly well, where the bright nickel finish adds a bit of shine against darker desks and shelving rather than disappearing into them.

Does the arm stay in position once it's adjusted? Yes, the two knuckle joints tighten down so the shade holds whatever angle it's set to rather than drifting back under its own weight.

What bulb does it take? A single E27 LED bulb, not included, so you can choose the brightness and colour temperature that suits the room.

Is this lamp dimmable? Only if it's fitted with a dimmable E27 LED bulb and used on a compatible dimmer switch, the fitting itself has no built in dimmer.
