Elstead Provence Single Floor Lamp - Aged Brass

A drafting lamp, reimagined for reading

Provence borrows its shape from an old fashioned architect's lamp: a slim upright column, a two point articulated arm, and a cone shade you can angle exactly where you want it. Fold the arm in and it sits neatly out of the way; pull it out towards an armchair and it becomes a proper reading light.

Aged brass, right through

The base, column, arm and shade are all finished in the same warm aged brass, so nothing on the lamp needs matching to anything else in the room. The inside of the cone shade carries the same brass tone, which helps reflect light back down towards a book or a chair rather than losing it upward into the ceiling.

How It Works

Two knuckle joints along the arm let you fold, extend and angle the shade, while a knurled screw at the swivel behind the shade locks it once you have the angle you want. It takes a single E27 bulb, which isn't included, wired to Class I electrics. Fit a dimmable bulb and you can bring the light down from a bright task setting to something softer; a standard bulb will just switch on and off.

Where It Works Best

Standing 167cm tall on a 34cm diameter base, with the arm reaching out a further 58cm, Provence has enough height to clear the arm of a sofa or reading chair and enough reach to bring the shade right over a book or a laptop. The base alone accounts for most of the lamp's 9.2kg weight, so once it's positioned it stays put. It works equally well beside a reading chair in a living room, next to a desk in a home office, or tucked into a study corner.

Can I adjust the angle of the Provence floor lamp? Yes. The arm has two knuckle joints plus a swivel behind the shade, so you can fold it back out of the way or extend it towards a chair and lock the shade at the angle you want.
