The square foot is finished in a deep dark brown with an open, cut out centre, so the base itself has presence rather than disappearing under the lamp. Above it, the stem is a slim rectangular column in a bright polished gold, running straight up to a square shade in cream polycotton. The inside of the shade is lined in metallic gold, so once the bulb is on, the light takes on a warm, slightly amber cast rather than the flatter white you get from a plain lining.

A single E27 bulb sits inside the shade, and it is the metallic gold lining that does most of the work once it is switched on, reflecting and warming the light rather than simply diffusing it. An inline switch on the cable makes it easy to turn the lamp on and off without reaching up under the shade. The bulb itself is not included, so fit an LED before use.
