A smaller light for a smaller piece

Not every picture needs a full length picture light. This single lamp version is scaled down for smaller artwork, mirrors or prints, where a longer shade would overwhelm the frame rather than complement it. Finished in flat matte black, it reads as part of the fittings rather than as decoration in its own right.

Finish

The steel body is coated in a flat matte black with almost no shine, so it stays visually quiet against whatever it's lighting, whether that's a gilt frame or a plain painted wall. Even the square wall plate, its face detailed with a subtle crossed pattern, keeps the same low sheen finish as the shade and arm.

How It Works

A single E14 lamp holder sits inside the cylindrical shade, carried on a short curved arm that lifts it clear of the wall plate. A thumbscrew joint partway up the arm lets you angle the shade so the beam lands on the picture itself rather than spilling onto the wall around it. The bulb isn't supplied, so you can choose the exact E14 lamp, dimmable or not, that suits the piece it's lighting.

Where It Works Best

Its small scale suits a single framed print in a hallway, a smaller mirror, or several spaced along a gallery wall, where a run of short lights looks more considered than one long fitting stretched over mismatched frames. It works just as well over a favourite piece in a living room, dining room or home office.

Questions People Ask

Does this picture light come with a bulb? No. It takes one E14 bulb, which isn't included, so you can choose the wattage and colour temperature to suit the artwork it's lighting.

Can I dim this picture light? Yes, as long as the E14 bulb you fit is itself dimmable. A non dimmable bulb won't respond to a dimmer switch.

How far does the light sit from the wall? The arm reaches about 20cm out from the wall plate and the shade itself is around 19cm long, so it stays compact against a smaller frame rather than dominating it.

Is this a good size for a small painting or mirror? Yes. It's scaled smaller than Elstead's longer picture lights, which makes it a closer match for compact artwork, mirrors or single frames rather than large canvases.
