Light that stays out of the picture

Dark bronze is the finish to choose when you want the fixture itself to all but disappear against a dark frame or a shadowed wall, leaving just the warm pool of light it throws down onto the art. It has a deep, aged brown black tone rather than a bright metallic one.

An arm that adjusts to the piece

The shade hangs from a curved arm on a square backplate, held at whatever angle you set with a small thumbscrew. Loosen it, tilt the two lamp holders, tighten again; that is the whole process, and it means the same fitting works for a painting hung slightly high or a mirror set lower.

Where it works well

Try it over a dark framed painting in a hallway, along a run of botanical prints in a dining room, or above a desk in a home office where you want reading light without a lamp taking up surface space.

Part of a considered detail

Look closely and you will see the backplate carries a pressed diamond pattern rather than a plain square, and the arm narrows to a threaded collar at the shade; small touches that mark it out as a proper picture light rather than a repurposed spotlight.
