Elstead Philadelphia Single Small Wall Down Lantern - Old Bronze

A smaller take on a classic shape

This is the compact version of Elstead's Philadelphia lantern, the same tall scroll bracket and urn shaped glass shade, scaled down for a smaller door or a narrower gap between windows. It still carries all the character of the bigger sizes, just in a footprint that suits a more modest frontage.

Aged bronze detailing

Every surface is worked with shells, leaves and scrollwork, cast in a deep old bronze that reads almost black in shadow and warms up with a touch of copper where the light catches it. It pairs naturally with stone, render or timber, and looks especially good in pairs either side of a doorway, as shown lit up on a stone archway in one of the photos here.

How it works

Inside sits a single E27 bulb, which you supply yourself, behind gently rippled amber glass. That texture breaks up the light nicely, so instead of a flat glare you get a warm, slightly flickering looking glow that suits the traditional design.

Where it works best

Being the smaller size in the range, this one earns its place on cottages, bungalows and terraces where a larger lantern would swamp the door. It's equally happy either side of a porch or dotted along a garden wall, and the downward orientation keeps the light close to where you're standing rather than up in the eaves.
