Elstead Philadelphia Single Medium Wall Up Lantern - Old Bronze

A lantern that points to the sky

Where its sibling throws light downward, this Philadelphia lantern is turned the other way, so the glow travels up the wall and across the eaves. The same urn shaped glass chamber sits above a curling scroll bracket, finished off with a slender finial rather than a hook, giving it a slightly taller, more upright silhouette on the wall.

Old bronze finish

The casting is dense with period detail, shell motifs, acanthus leaves and rope edging, all picked out in a dark, aged bronze tone. It's the kind of finish that looks right at home against old brick or painted render, and won't look out of place on a newer house built with traditional lines.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb (not included) sits behind hand blown, textured glass panels in a warm amber tint. Because the lantern faces upward, the light washes over the wall and underside of any porch canopy above it, creating a soft glow rather than a direct beam.

Where It Works Best

This upward facing style suits spots where you want to highlight the architecture itself, under a gable, beside a garage door, or either side of a set of steps, rather than pooling light onto the ground below. Pair it with the matching down lantern elsewhere on the house for a bit of contrast.

Does this lantern shine light upward or downward? This is the upward facing version of the Philadelphia lantern, so the light washes up the wall and across the underside of any porch canopy above it, rather than pooling on the ground. A matching down facing lantern is also available if you want contrast elsewhere on the house.

Is a bulb included? No. It takes a single E27 bulb, which isn't supplied, so you can choose the tone and brightness that suits the spot.

Is it suitable for an exposed exterior wall? Yes. It's IP44 rated, which means it's built to cope with an exposed spot on an outside wall.

Can I use a dimmer switch with this lantern? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A non dimmable bulb won't respond to a dimmer switch even if one is fitted.
