Elstead Parkstone LED Bollard 700mm - Basalt Stone & Stainless Steel

A slender monolith that lights the way

Standing 700mm tall, this Parkstone bollard reads as much like a piece of garden sculpture as it does a light fitting. It is a solid column of dark basalt stone, cut with a single vertical channel of light down one face and held in place by a stainless steel trim near the top. Switched off, it simply looks like a piece of carved stone marking the ground; switched on, that one face glows with a soft, even line of light.

Basalt stone and stainless steel

The body is basalt stone, a dense volcanic rock with a naturally dark, faintly textured surface rather than a painted or coated finish, so the colour runs through the material itself rather than sitting on top of it. Set into one face near the top is a square 316 stainless steel plate, and beneath it a recessed channel lined with a textured glass diffuser that spreads the LED's glow evenly rather than showing it as a single bright point.

How it works

A 6W LED is built into the top of the fitting behind the steel trim, sending light down through the frosted glass channel so what you see from a distance is a soft vertical line rather than a visible lamp. It is not designed to be swapped out, it is built to run for years rather than take a replaceable bulb. The light is not dimmable, and being a Class I fitting it must be earthed and wired in by a qualified electrician, as with any mains powered outdoor light.

Where it works best

Its height makes it a good marker as well as a source of usable light at ground level, at a gatepost, either side of a driveway entrance, or spaced along a path rather than set flush into it. Rated IP55, it is built to stay outdoors permanently through UK rain and damp. It shares its basalt and steel finish with the shorter 400mm Parkstone bollard, so the two can be mixed along the same run where you want a change of height.

Parkstone is part of the wider Elstead Lighting collection, a British lighting group whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the Lucas family today. Can the LED in the Parkstone bollard be replaced? No. The 6W LED is integrated into the fitting rather than fitted as a separate bulb, so it is not designed to be swapped out, though it is built to give years of use before it would need replacing.

Is the Parkstone 700mm bollard suitable for permanent outdoor installation? Yes. It is rated IP55, so it is built to withstand rain and damp conditions all year round.

Can I mix the 700mm and 400mm Parkstone bollards along the same path? Yes. Both sizes share the same basalt stone and stainless steel finish, so they can be run together where you want some variation in height along a path or driveway.
