A porch lantern with proper presence
The Parish Mini takes the profile of a traditional gas lantern and brings it down to porch scale, hanging from its own length of chain rather than sitting on a bracket. The hexagonal cast aluminium frame tapers in from a stepped cap to a neat finial underneath, and the glazed panels let the light spread out on every side rather than pooling straight down.
Finish
This version is finished in black, with a slightly textured powder coating that reads as a soft matt rather than a shine. Up close the surface has a fine grain to it, and every edge of the frame, from the roof line down to the finial, keeps a crisp bevelled profile. Clear glass panels sit inside the metal framework, so the lantern holds its shape and detail whether the bulb inside is lit or not.
How it works
A single E27 lamp holder sits inside, wired to Class I standards, and the fitting hangs from its own integral chain rather than a wall bracket, so it needs a hook or eye fixed into a beam, porch ceiling or gateway to hang from. The chain can be shortened or let out, giving a drop anywhere between about 49.5cm and 96.5cm depending on how it is hung. It is IP44 rated, so it is built to cope with the rain and damp of the spot it will actually hang in.
Where it works best
At around 34.5cm to the body, the Parish Mini is sized for spots where a full sized lantern would dominate, a covered porch, a small entrance canopy, either side of a garden gate, or hung from a bracket over a side door. Because it is IP44 rated for outdoor use, it can go anywhere it will be exposed to the weather without needing a fully sheltered position.
