A porch light that watches the doorway for you
The Norfolk PIR takes Elstead's traditional black lantern and builds a passive infrared sensor into the wall bracket, so it switches itself on the moment someone walks into range rather than waiting on a switch. It's the same lantern silhouette as the standard Norfolk wall light, just with a lookout built in.
Black die cast aluminium and leaded glass
The lantern head is cast in aluminium and finished in black, topped with a domed cap and a pointed finial. Each face is glazed with diamond patterned leaded glass, giving the light a textured, old fashioned glow rather than a flat modern one once the bulb is lit.
How it works
A passive infrared sensor sits in the base of the scrolled wall bracket and switches the lantern on automatically when it detects movement nearby, then off again once the area has been quiet for a while. It takes one E27 bulb, not supplied, and will dim if fitted with a dimmable LED and wired past a compatible dimmer. As with any hardwired outdoor fitting, it should be installed by a qualified electrician.
Where it works best
Fit it beside a back door, along a side passage, over a garage, or anywhere else you would rather the light came on by itself as someone approaches. The sensor makes this the more practical of the two Norfolk up wall lanterns wherever security or convenience matters more than a light left permanently switched on.

Does the Norfolk PIR lantern turn off automatically? Yes. The built in sensor switches the light on when it detects movement and off again once the area has been still for a while, rather than staying on permanently.
Can I fit a dimmable bulb? Yes, a dimmable E27 LED will work, but dimming only functions if the sensor is wired past a compatible dimmer switch rather than a standard one.
Is this lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes. It's IP43 rated and designed for exterior walls, though it should always be installed by a qualified electrician.
What's the difference between this and the standard Norfolk wall lantern? This version has a passive infrared sensor built into the base of the bracket, so it switches on by itself when it senses movement. The standard Norfolk relies on a manual switch instead.
