Lit like an old miner's lamp

There's something wonderfully honest about a lantern that still looks like it belongs to the people who first carried them underground. This chain hung pendant borrows its shape from old fashioned miners' lamps, with a tapered seeded glass shade held by a crossed wire guard and topped with a domed cap. It has real presence, whether it's greeting visitors at a porch or hanging along a covered walkway.

Finished in a deep, textured Old Bronze that catches the light along its ridges and edges, this lantern has the look of metal that has been outside for years, without any of the actual wear. The seeded glass shade is genuinely bubbled and uneven, scattering the light rather than throwing it in one hard beam.

How it works

The lantern hangs from a length of chain that can be shortened or lengthened to suit the space, giving a drop of roughly 45.5cm up to 156cm. Inside sits a single E27 lamp holder, so you can choose a bulb with whatever warmth and brightness you prefer. Wired to Class I, it should be properly earthed as part of installation.

Built for exterior use, this suits a porch, an entrance canopy, a converted barn or a garden building where a working lantern look feels right. Its IP44 rating means it can cope with a covered outdoor spot that still gets exposed to the weather.
