A lantern that switches itself on

Medstead's half lantern shape, hexagonal and flush to the wall, gets a practical upgrade here: a passive infrared sensor built into the base plate, so the light comes on by itself the moment it detects movement nearby rather than waiting for someone to find a switch in the dark.

Matte black steel

Cast in steel and finished in a deep matte black, Medstead keeps the same scalloped crown and pointed finial as the rest of the range. The sensor housing sits low and unobtrusive beneath the lantern body itself, rather than bolted on as a separate box.

How It Works

One E27 lamp holder is fitted inside, though the bulb itself is not included. The fitting is wired to Class I, so it needs an earth connection, and it will dim if you fit a dimmable LED bulb.

Where It Works Best

The built in sensor makes this version well suited to side gates, back doors and driveways, anywhere a light coming on automatically is more useful than one you have to remember to switch on. If you would rather control the light manually, the standard Medstead lantern without the sensor is also available in the same black finish.

What bulb does it take, and is one included? It takes a single E27 bulb, ideally an LED, which is not included, so you will need to fit one before use.
