The Klampenborg 1 Light Wall Lantern brings a proper Scandinavian barn light silhouette to an English wall, in a warm oxide red that reads more terracotta than fire engine. Against pale render, brick or timber cladding it sits somewhere between rustic outbuilding and Scandinavian farmhouse, and holds its colour where a plain painted fixture would eventually chip and fade.

Stainless steel underneath the colour

Strip back the finish and this is 304 grade stainless steel with a clear glass shroud, powder coated rather than simply painted, so the colour is baked into the surface instead of sitting on top of it. Arm, wall plate, disc shade and glass shroud all share the one shade of red, which is what gives the finished lantern its single piece look on the wall rather than a collection of mismatched parts. The same swan neck design is also available in Fir Green and Navy Blue for anyone building a set in a different colour.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits inside the clear glass shroud, open at the bottom so the lamp itself stays visible, while the angled disc shade above throws light down toward the wall and doorstep rather than out and up into a neighbour's window. Fit a dimmable bulb and it will respond to a compatible dimmer switch. The bulb itself isn't included, and the lantern needs a small amount of straightforward assembly once it arrives.

Where It Works Best

The warmth of the oxide red suits cottages, farmhouses and garden outbuildings where black or graphite would feel a little stark, and it works well either side of a front door, above a bench, or spaced along the wall of a stable or garden room. Because it's rated IP44, it can be fitted anywhere outdoors that isn't in the direct line of driving rain, including under a porch canopy or roof overhang.
