A coach lantern with real presence
The Kendal takes its shape from the coach lanterns that once lit stable yards and front steps, with a flared hip roof, a pierced chimney finial and a tall glazed body that throws light out in every direction. Standing 46cm high, it has the scale to hold its own on a large porch or gable end rather than disappearing into the brickwork.
Old Bronze finish
This one comes in Old Bronze, a deep, almost black toned wrought iron finish that reads as an aged, hand finished piece rather than a modern casting. The glazing is a heavily textured rain effect glass, so the two lamps inside are softened into a glow rather than shown as bare bulbs.
How It Works
Two E14 lamp holders sit behind the glass, and one side panel is hinged with a simple turn clasp so the whole front opens up for changing bulbs without any awkward dismantling, much as you would with an old candle or oil lantern. Bulbs are not included, and the fitting is dimmable when fitted with dimmable E14 lamps.
Where It Works Best
Its size and character suit period stone or brick properties best, either side of a front door, on a coach house, or spaced along a boundary wall, though a well proportioned new build with a traditional facade will carry it just as happily. Rated IP44, Kendal is built to handle direct exposure to rain, so it works equally well on an open porch or an unsheltered wall.
