A lantern that still looks lit from the street

The Hythe wall lantern has a real hinged door on the front, styled after old storm lanterns rather than a sealed modern box, and it hangs from a curled wrought iron bracket that gives it a slightly swinging, carried look even though it is fixed firmly to the wall.

Old bronze and seeded glass

Cast in wrought iron and finished in old bronze, Hythe reads as a deep, warm brown rather than a flat black, close to the colour ironwork takes on after years left outside. The glass panels have a seeded, rain flecked texture rather than perfectly clear glazing, which does most of the work in making the whole fitting look properly weathered.

How It Works

One E14 lamp sits inside the lantern box, wired on Class I, and the front door hinges open so you can change the bulb from the front rather than taking the whole fitting off the wall. Fit a dimmable LED lamp and the glow behind the seeded glass can be turned down closer to actual candlelight. The bulb itself is not included.

Where It Works Best

Hythe is sold as a single lantern rather than as a pair, which makes it an easy fit either side of a front door if you buy two, or on its own beside a gate, porch or outbuilding where a flat, modern light fitting would look out of place. It is rated for outdoor use, so it suits an exposed porch just as well as a sheltered doorway.

Can I change the bulb without taking the lantern off the wall? Yes. The front panel is a real hinged door, so you can open it and change the E14 lamp from the front rather than unscrewing the whole fitting.

Is the Hythe lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes. It is rated IP43 and designed as an exterior wall lantern, suitable for a porch, gate or front door.

Is the Hythe wall lantern dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E14 bulb. A bulb that isn't dimmable won't dim even on a dimmer circuit.
