Elstead Hythe Single Wall Lantern - Old Bronze

The Hythe lantern has a proper little door on the front, hinged like a real storm lantern, which is a nice touch if you're the sort of person who changes bulbs from the front rather than unscrewing a whole fitting off the wall. It hangs from a curled wrought iron bracket that gives it a slightly swinging, carried look even though it's fixed firmly to the wall.

A deep, weathered bronze

Cast in wrought iron and finished in old bronze, it reads as a dark, warm brown rather than a flat black, close to the colour good ironwork takes on after years outside. The glass panels have a seeded, rain flecked texture rather than being perfectly clear, which does a lot of the work in making the whole thing look properly aged.

How it works

One E14 candle style lamp sits inside, wired on Class I, so from a distance it genuinely looks like a lit candle behind glass rather than an obvious light bulb. Fit a dimmable lamp and you can turn the glow down for something closer to actual candlelight.

Where it works best

It's a single lantern rather than half of a pair, which makes it an easy fit either side of a front door if you buy two, or on its own beside a gate, porch or outbuilding where a flat modern light fitting would look out of place.
