The Holborn 2 Light Medium Half Lantern brings a traditional coach lantern shape to a flat backed design built for close wall mounting, and this version is finished in a bright Polished Chrome rather than the warmer brass and bronze options elsewhere in the range. The mitred corners, slatted top and bevelled glass panels give it the look of a period carriage lamp, while the flat back keeps it sitting close and secure against a porch wall or gatepost.

Solid brass is plated in a bright, mirror like Polished Chrome, giving the lantern a cool, reflective finish that catches whatever light is nearby rather than absorbing it the way a darker bronze would. It reads clearly against grey render, pale stone or a painted door, and the shine along the slatted top and mitred edges stays consistent whether the lantern is lit or not.

How It Works

Two E14 lamp holders sit inside the lantern behind clear bevelled glass panels, spreading light out in several directions rather than throwing it in a single beam. Both bulbs are visible through the glass, so the lantern works as a feature in its own right even before dusk. Fit dimmable E14 bulbs and the fitting will respond to a dimmer switch, though the bulbs themselves are not supplied. It carries a Class I electrical rating, so it must be earthed, and we recommend a qualified electrician handles installation.

Where It Works Best

As a half lantern built to sit flush against the wall, it suits porches, entrances and gateposts where a projecting fitting would get in the way, and works particularly well hung in a matching pair either side of a front door. It carries an IP44 rating, so it is built to withstand exposure on an open porch or gate pier rather than needing a sheltered spot. The bright chrome finish also helps it read clearly after dark, useful where the fitting is doing double duty marking an entrance as well as lighting it.
