Holborn takes its shape from the old box lanterns you see either side of a Georgian front door, four bevelled glass panels held in a square brass frame with a slatted gallery running around the top. Rather than hanging from a chain, it sits flush against the ceiling, so it keeps a low profile over a porch, canopy or entrance where headroom is tight.

The frame is solid brass, finished in a warm, softly matte brushed brass rather than a mirror polish, so it won't show every fingerprint the way a bright polished finish would. Clear bevelled glass fills all four sides, and small brass finial feet sit at each corner. The fretwork strip running around the top is functional as well as decorative, letting a little light spill upward through the slats as well as down.

How It Works

Two E27 bulbs sit inside on a central holder, so the light comes from the middle of the fitting and spreads out evenly through all four glass panels. Bulbs aren't included. It's wired to Class I standards, which means it needs an earthed supply, and it will dim if you fit dimmable bulbs, though it won't dim on its own with standard ones.

Where It Works Best

Holborn is rated IP44, so it's built to cope with a covered porch, canopy or terrace where it's sheltered from direct rain but still exposed to damp air. Because it sits flush rather than hanging down, it also suits a lower porch ceiling where a pendant would sit too close to head height. The square shape and even spread from all four sides make it a good match either side of a front door, or spaced along a covered walkway.
