Light that hangs in the doorway
Most porch lights fix flat to a wall, but Hereford hangs from a chain instead, dropping into an archway or recess so the light falls where you are standing rather than off to one side. It suits a covered porch or a passageway with headroom overhead, somewhere a wall bracket would not make as much sense as a pendant.
Black with a window pane look
The lantern body is cast in black die cast aluminium, with a crossbar splitting each glass panel into four small window style panes, a detail borrowed from traditional coach lanterns. The glass itself is seeded, carrying tiny bubbles and imperfections that soften the light rather than showing a flat, machine perfect pane.
How It Works
Hereford takes a single E27 LED bulb, not included, held inside the four paned glass cage. The chain has a middle link, so you can shorten or lengthen the drop between 38cm and 47.5cm to suit the height of your porch. It is built to Class I electrical standards, so it needs to be wired to an earthed supply, and we would always recommend a qualified electrician handles the installation.
Where It Works Best
The hanging fixing makes most sense wherever there is a recess or archway overhead, a covered front porch, a gateway, or a passage between two buildings, rather than a flat wall with no ceiling to hang from. It is rated IP43, which covers splashing water, so a sheltered spot suits it better than one left fully open to driving rain.

Hereford comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the Lucas family today. This traditional coach lantern shape sits alongside cleaner, more contemporary designs elsewhere in the Elstead range, and the same Hereford design is also available as a wall mounted lantern if a bracket suits your entrance better than a hanging chain.
