The Hereford pedestal lantern takes the traditional shape of an English carriage lamp, a domed roof and a cylinder of clear glass wrapped in scrollwork, and sets it on its own fixed pillar rather than a wall bracket. It's built to stand at eye or waist height beside a drive, gate or path, glowing from its own base rather than borrowing height from a nearby wall.

Black die cast aluminium

Cast in black die cast aluminium, the lantern's roof, cage and scrollwork panels share a single flat black finish that reads as ironwork from a distance without the weight or upkeep of the real thing. Clear glass panels wrap the light source, leaving the scrollwork visible in silhouette against the glow. A small finial tops the roof, echoing the shape used across the wider Hereford range.

How It Works

One E27 lamp holder sits behind the glass, ready for a bulb of your choosing. Fit a dimmable bulb and the Hereford will dim on a compatible switch, so the light can be turned down for a softer glow after dark. The lantern head sits on a tapering pillar that bolts to a fixed base plate rather than a wall, so once installed it stands as its own freestanding fitting. As with any mains wired exterior light, we recommend a qualified electrician handles the connection.

Where It Works Best

Its pillar mounting makes it a marker rather than a wash of light: either side of a driveway entrance, along the top of a low garden wall, flanking a gate or front path, or spaced along a boundary where you want a line of low level light rather than height. It's rated for outdoor use, so it's equally at home in an exposed spot as a sheltered one.
