The Franklin desk lamp borrows its shape from an old factory pendant, a deep dome shade set low on a slim arm rather than hung from the ceiling above. A weighted base and a chrome arm that sweeps up and over the shade give it the look of salvaged industrial kit, just resized to sit on a desk.

Elstead calls this shade colour Tarpaulin, a soft, chalky grey with enough warmth in it to sit comfortably against most other tones rather than reading as flat black or white. The dome is glossy on the outside and pale on the inside, so the bulb glows through clearly rather than hiding away, while the polished chrome arm and base ring pick up whatever light is around them.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits inside the dome and throws its light down and outward in a wide pool, which makes this more of a task light than a soft ambient one on its own. Fit a dimmable LED bulb and you can pull the light back for the evening or bring it up for reading and paperwork at a desk.
