A single line, sketched in light

Some lamps light a room. The Flamingo table lamp draws a shape in it first. One continuous line curls from a hooked black beak down through a long slender neck, loops itself into a full circle partway down, then straightens into a leg planted on a round black base. Off, it reads as a piece of wire sculpture. On, warm light traces the whole outline like a single stroke of a pen.

The white finish

This version keeps the silhouette quiet. The metal frame is finished in a smooth matte white that all but disappears against a pale wall in daylight, with only the small black beak tip and the black base standing out as accents. Behind the white outer casing sits an opaque diffuser running the length of the neck and leg, so what glows is a soft, even line of light rather than a row of visible points.

How it works

A single 6W LED is integrated directly into the frame rather than fitted as a separate bulb, producing a steady 420 lumens of warm white 3000K light along the entire curve. Because the LED is built into the metal itself, there is nothing to unscrew or replace. The lamp simply plugs in and is switched on and off at an inline switch on the cable, and it is not designed to be dimmed.

Where it works best

Flamingo earns its space on a surface with room to show off its shape, a bedside table, a console, a desk corner or a chest of drawers where the curve is not competing with anything else. Flamingo comes from Elstead Lighting, a British lighting group whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and which remains led by the Lucas family today.
