Elstead Douille Single Wall Light - Polished Nickel

A cool, clean update on a classic silhouette

Douille pairs a curved brass arm with a ribbed glass shade that hangs free on a twisted flex, and in polished nickel the whole fitting takes on a crisper, cooler character than its warmer brass relatives. It reads as much like a piece of hardware as a light fitting, with a jointed arm and a lamp holder that carries the shade out and away from the wall.

The wall plate, arm and lamp holder are all finished in polished nickel, giving a bright, mirror like shine rather than the softer glow of brass or bronze. Underneath, the shade is ribbed glass, its vertical flutes catching and scattering light so the bulb inside reads as a soft glimmer rather than a hard point source. A silver toned twisted flex connects shade to arm, matching the cool tone of the metalwork rather than standing out against it.

How It Works

The shade hangs on its flex rather than sitting fixed to the arm, so once the fitting is wired in, the flex can be shortened or let out to change how far it drops. Pulled up short, the bulb sits close under the curved bracket; let right out, it drops well below the arm for a more pendant like look. It takes a single E27 LED bulb, which is not included, and responds to a dimmer switch as long as the bulb fitted is itself dimmable.

Where It Works Best

The cooler polished nickel finish suits kitchens and dining rooms with chrome, stainless steel or nickel hardware already in the room, sitting more naturally alongside taps and handles than a warmer brass tone would. Because the drop is adjustable, it also works well positioned over a run of worktop or above a table, where you want the light to fall lower than a standard wall bracket allows. For a room lit from two points, it pairs naturally with the polished nickel Douille table lamp.

Is the Douille wall light dimmable? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 LED bulb and pair it with a compatible dimmer switch. A non dimmable bulb will not dim even on a dimmer circuit.

Does the Douille wall light come with a bulb? No. It takes a single E27 LED bulb, which is sold separately.

How far can the shade be lowered? The flex lets the shade drop anywhere from around 32cm to 122cm below the wall plate, so you can set it close under the arm or let it hang lower depending on where you need the light to fall.
