Most coach lanterns stand proud of the wall on a bracket. Deco Lane does the opposite, with a flat back that sits directly against the brickwork while keeping the dome top and four sided glazed shape that reads as a proper period lantern rather than a plain box light.

A soft, pale cream

Cast in aluminium and finished in cream, this is the lightest colour in the Deco Lane range, sitting quietly against red brick, dark render or stained timber rather than standing out against them. The clear polycarbonate glazing panels keep the bulb in full view, with nothing patterned or tinted in the way. The same shape is also made in black, bronze and green, so there's a version to suit a darker frontage as well as a pale one.

How It Works

Inside sits a single E27 LED lamp holder, and because the glazing panels are clear rather than frosted, the light comes through as a fairly direct point source rather than a diffused glow. Fit a dimmable bulb and it will work with a dimmer switch. It arrives with some simple final assembly to complete once unpacked, which is how it stays protected in transit.

Where It Works Best

Sitting almost flush to the wall, Deco Lane needs very little clearance, so it earns its place on narrow porches, either side of a front door, or along a passage where a projecting lantern would catch on anyone passing. It's IP44 rated, so it's built to take rain and general weather exposure as an exterior fitting.

Is the Deco Lane lantern suitable for outdoor use? Yes. It's rated IP44 and designed specifically as an exterior wall lantern, so it's built to cope with rain and general weather exposure.

Does it stick out far from the wall? Not much. At only 11cm deep it sits almost flush against the brickwork, which is why it works well on narrow porches or passages where a projecting lantern would get in the way.

Is a bulb included? No. Deco Lane takes one E27 LED lamp, but the bulb itself isn't supplied, so you'll need to add one before fitting.

Can I dim the Deco Lane lantern? Yes, as long as you fit a dimmable E27 bulb. A standard, non dimmable bulb won't respond to a dimmer switch even if the circuit itself is dimmable.
