The Copenhagen Single Chain Lantern borrows its shape from an old quayside signal light: a flared black cap, a ring cage, and a rounded clear glass globe suspended below on its own run of chain. Rather than sitting flush to the ceiling like a standard porch light, it hangs down and swings gently into its own space, giving an entrance a bit more presence than a fixed fitting can.

The body is 304 grade stainless steel, powder coated in a flat black that stands up to weather better than an ordinary painted metal light. The glass globe at the base is completely clear, so the bulb sits in full view and the light spreads out in every direction rather than being thrown just downward.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits inside the globe, held by a ring cage that keeps the glass protected while still letting the light through. It's wired down through the chain from a round ceiling rose, and the chain itself is adjustable, so the lantern can hang anywhere from about 37.5cm to 97cm below the fixing point depending on how much drop the porch or entrance needs.

Hang it over a front door, a covered entrance, or a sheltered outdoor seating area, and consider a pair either side of a wider porch opening for symmetry.
