A traditional lantern for the front door

The Chicago wall lantern has the look of an old street lamp brought down to porch height, all curved ironwork and a glass case that catches the light from every angle. It hangs from a scrolled wall arm finished in textured black, with a fluted crown and a tapered drop finial at the base that give it real presence next to a doorway.

Textured black and seeded glass

The body is cast aluminium in a matt textured black, and the glazing is clear seeded glass, full of tiny bubbles and ripples that soften the bulb's glow rather than showing it as a flat, even light. It reads as an older, hand blown pane even though it is built for daily outdoor use.

How it works

One E27 bulb sits inside the lantern case, held on a central bracket so it is visible through all four glass sides. Wiring is Class I, so the fitting needs an earthed supply, and it will dim if you fit a dimmable lamp and a compatible switch.

Where it works best

Mounted either side of a front door or along a covered porch, the scrolled arm projects the lantern away from the wall so it throws light down and out rather than straight against brick. It suits period and cottage style homes especially well, though the plain black finish sits comfortably against modern render too.
