The Chicago single wall lantern takes its cue from old fashioned street lighting and brings it down to door height. A curved wall arm carries the lantern case away from the brickwork, so it hangs the way a carriage lamp would outside a period townhouse. Seeded glass panels wrap the bulb on every side, giving the light a soft, slightly broken quality rather than one flat beam.

The case, crown and wall arm are all cast aluminium finished in a matt textured black, so the surface has a faint grain to it rather than a smooth painted sheen. The glazing is clear seeded glass, scattered with the small bubbles and ripples of hand finished glass, which breaks up the bulb's glow and keeps the fitting from looking too stark after dark.

How It Works

A single E27 bulb sits on a central bracket inside the lantern case, visible through the glass from front and side alike. The fitting is Class I, so it needs an earthed supply, and it will dim if you fit a dimmable E27 bulb on a compatible dimmer switch. The bulb itself is not supplied.

Mounted beside a front door, along a porch, or either side of a garage, the scrolled arm holds the lantern clear of the wall so light spreads down and outward rather than washing straight up the brickwork. Its IP44 rating means it is built to cope with a covered or partially exposed outdoor spot, and the period silhouette suits cottages and traditional facades particularly well, though the plain black finish also reads cleanly against modern render.
