A small light with a bright shine
The small Chawton picture light is built to sit above a single frame or a tight cluster of pictures, washing an even band of light down over them rather than flooding the whole wall. Two adjustable arms carry the shade below a slim backplate, so once it is fixed in place you can still fine tune exactly where the light falls.
Polished brass finish
This version is finished in a bright, mirror like polished brass, with none of the softened tone you would find on an antique finish. The bevelled edges of the shade and the fixings themselves catch the light as much as they cast it, which suits a room where you already have gilt frames, brass door furniture or other polished metal fittings.
How it works
Each arm has a double knuckle joint, visible where the shade and the backplate meet the central bar, so the shade can be tilted up or down after fitting until the beam lands precisely on the artwork rather than the wall around it. It takes a single E14 LED bulb, positioned to graze light across the surface of the picture, though the bulb itself is not included. This fitting is wired directly into the wall, so we always recommend a qualified electrician installs it.
Where it works best
Chawton suits hallways, living rooms, dining rooms and studies, anywhere there is a picture worth drawing the eye to. At this small size it stays in proportion with a single modestly sized frame, or a close pairing of two or three, without dwarfing them the way a larger picture light can.
Elstead
Elstead is a British lighting group whose roots trace back to The Elstead Forge in Alton, Hampshire, and the business remains led by the same Lucas family today. Chawton is one of its longer running picture light designs, made in small, medium and large sizes across several finishes, which is worth knowing if you are lighting more than one picture of a different size on the same wall.

Questions People Ask
What size picture will the small Chawton suit? It's sized for a single, modestly sized frame or a tight cluster of two or three small pictures. Elstead also makes Chawton in medium and large sizes if you're lighting a bigger frame.
Can I angle the shade after it's fitted? Yes. Both arms have a double knuckle joint, so you can tilt the shade up or down once it's screwed to the wall to aim the light precisely onto the picture.
What bulb does the Chawton picture light take? It takes one E14 LED bulb, which is not included. Fit a dimmable E14 LED if you want to use it on a dimmer circuit.
Do I need an electrician to install this light? Yes. It's wired directly into the wall rather than plugged in, so we always recommend a qualified electrician fits it.
