A slim black bar for lighting art
The Chawton picture light is a slender bar fitted just above a frame, angled down on two adjustable arms to throw light across the artwork rather than out into the room. In matte black it reads as a quiet horizontal line rather than a piece of hardware, so the picture underneath stays the focus.
Matte black finish
The finish is flat and non reflective, with none of the shine you get from polished metal. Each end of the bar is faceted rather than simply rounded off, so the light catches a crisp edge along its length instead of a soft curve, and it sits comfortably against dark frames, black woodwork or a mostly monochrome wall.
How It Works
Two arms carry the bar out from a slim wall plate, each built around a knuckle joint that loosens, angles and retightens. That means you can aim the bar down onto a large canvas or level it across a run of smaller frames once it's up, rather than being stuck with whatever angle it was fitted at. It takes four E14 bulbs, sold separately, and is wired directly into the wall, so we'd always recommend a qualified electrician fits it.
Where It Works Best
At 65.3cm wide, Chawton suits a large single canvas or a horizontal run of two or three smaller frames, and works well above a fireplace, on a stairwell wall or along a dining room wall where the art is the thing you want people to notice. It's just as at home in a living room, hallway or home office, wherever a piece of art needs its own light rather than relying on the room's general lighting.

Questions People Ask
How many bulbs does the Chawton picture light need? Four E14 bulbs, which aren't included, so you'll need to fit your own LED bulbs before switching it on.
Can I angle the light after it's been installed? Yes. Both arms use a knuckle joint that loosens, angles and retightens, so you can adjust how the bar points at the artwork once it's fixed to the wall.
Is the Chawton picture light dimmable? Yes, as long as the E14 bulbs fitted are dimmable ones. Non dimmable bulbs won't respond to a dimmer switch.
Do I need an electrician to fit this light? Yes. It's wired directly into the wall rather than plugged in, so we always recommend a qualified electrician installs it.
