Elstead Chapel 1 Light Chain Lantern - Black

A hanging lantern with the shape of an old coach lamp

Suspended on a black chain rather than fixed to a bracket, this lantern has the squared body and pitched cap you associate with traditional coach lighting, reworked as a pendant for a porch or entrance. The frame is cast aluminium in a matte black finish, and the four clear glass panels mean the fitting looks lit up from every angle, not just from below.

How it works

One E27 lamp sits in the centre of the housing, held clear of the glass so the light isn't blocked by the frame. The chain length can be shortened or lengthened between 57cm and 104cm, which gives some flexibility if your porch ceiling sits higher or lower than average, and the fitting will take a dimmable bulb if you want to run it on a dimmer circuit.

Where it works best

Built for outdoor use, it's suited to a porch, covered entrance or veranda, anywhere a hanging light makes more sense than something wall mounted. Black reads well against most house fronts, whether that's brick, render or timber.
